I chose MidKent College as it is local to me. I am currently a tool maker at Rydal Precision Tools in Swanley. The course is something I approached my employers with and they were happy to put me forward for it. I am hopefully being put forward for management in the future so this is a great head start.
So far I have found the course to be really eye opening, from my level 3 it’s been quite a gap, but going onto the level 4, as I’m a bit more mature, it’s a lot easier for me to comprehend the whole course as I’m more focused.
The biggest thing I’ve learnt so far has been the maths. The whole maths side of engineering gets more complicated as it goes on and as I’m quite quick with mental maths I think that has really helped. My tutor Sean has been great - an amazing help - he always responds to emails if I have any queries, he’s been realty good.
The facilities are new and modern which is good. Coming to College as a mature student has been hard as I’m going from five days a week at work to four and they’re slightly missing me. They are hiring someone to replace what I was doing and I’m moving forward which on its own is quite a big step career wise. For anyone looking to study this course I would say that they need to be prepared as it does take a lot of hard work and commitment.
