I’m currently studying the Level 3 in Construction & the Built Environment and will be progressing onto the Level 4 HNC in Surveying in September.
I work for the Chartway Group as a surveying apprentice. They were very supportive of me coming to College, and long term I’d like to be a qualified quantity surveyor. For my job I create orders, tender packages and payments. I’ve just got my CSCS card too – I have to do a health and safety test for that.
I started at Chartways as a business admistration apprentice, and after completing this apprenticeship, I was offered a temporary role as a surveying apprentice – and I liked it! My family were supportive of my move into construction, and apprenticeships in general.
On the Level 3 programme we’ve learnt to use Revit to create 3D drawings, about the different building regulations and tenders.
On the level 4 we’re going to learn more about construction, surveying, science and materials, practice and management, and hopefully visit the Ecobuild exhibition.
I’d recommend an apprenticeship to others as you get paid, you’re studying and the course is free. You can apply what you’re learning straight into the workplace. You can also see what others are doing too – we’re from different roles and backgrounds.
