Course Description

This hands-on, industry-aligned qualification is your gateway into the world of automotive service and repair. Developed in collaboration with employers and technical experts, the City & Guilds Level 2 Diploma is designed to equip you with the essential knowledge, skills, and behaviours needed to begin a successful career as a Light Vehicle Service and Maintenance Technician.

Throughout the course, you’ll gain a strong understanding of:

Vehicle systems and components (engine, transmission, brakes, suspension, etc.)

Routine maintenance and servicing procedures

Diagnosis and repair of mechanical and electrical faults

Health, safety, and sustainability in the automotive environment

Customer service and workplace professionalism

Other Important Information

You will need to purchase the PPE pack which includes overalls, polo shirts and work trousers. You will also need steel toe cap footwear.

All MidKent College students will continue studying English and maths until they are 19, or until they have achieved a Grade C/4. Your study programme will incorporate a work placement of up to 350 hours in a role relevant to your study. All students will have access to a personal tutor to support their personal and professional development.

Future Prospects

Upon successful completion, you’ll be well-prepared to:

Progress to a Level 3 Motor Vehicle Service and Maintenance Technician Apprenticeship

Enter employment in the automotive sector as a Trainee Technician or workshop Assistant

Entry Requirements

Minimum of 4 GCSEs at grade 3 (D) or above, including English and maths

A genuine interest in the motor vehicle industry

A successful interview and initial assessment to determine suitability
