Community support can have a profound impact on our students' lives, and we're delighted to share how the generosity of a local Rotary club has enabled one of our students to regain her independence and confidently re-engage with College life and work experience.

We are incredibly grateful to Medway Sunlight Rotary Club for their generous support for Enhance Curriculum student, Beau. While awaiting repairs to her electric wheelchair, Beau had been using a manual chair, which significantly impacted her independence both at College and at home. She was also unable to access her work experience placement during this time due to mobility limitations. What was thought to be a short term challenge turned into a much longer one, meaning that Beau had missed over a month of work experience hours and had been unable to access her wider community without significant support from her family. Beau is fiercely independent and found it very difficult to be reliant on others as she never wants to be a bother - although all staff and family agree that she is never one!

In response, the Rotary Club kindly pledged a donation of £660 to help fund the short-term hire of a suitable electric wheelchair. This contribution, alongside an insurance payment, has enabled access to vital equipment, restoring Beau’s independence and allowing her to engage more fully in College life and opportunities beyond. It has been amazing to see Beau whizzing around the College once again, just as she did before. Without their incredible support, this would not have been possible.

Many thanks to Medway Sunlight Rotary for their compassionate support and making a meaningful contribution to the life of one our students and their wider family. Enhance Curriculum continue to work with the Club and are looking forward to the development and launch of their very own Rotaract Club sponsored by Medway Sunlight Rotary. More news coming soon!
