If your young person is enrolled on a full-time course, they will be studying as part of a Study Programme. Study Programmes are designed to help students develop the technical knowledge, practical skills and personal attributes needed to progress successfully into employment, apprenticeships or higher education.

A student's timetable will include:

  • Vocational lessons - specialist teaching and practical learning related to their chosen course or career pathway.
  • English and Maths - students who have not yet achieved a Grade 4 or above in GCSE English and/or Maths will continue to study these subjects as part of their programme.
  • Contextualised English and Maths - opportunities to develop literacy and numeracy skills within vocational learning, helping students apply these skills in real-life and industry-specific contexts.
  • Group Tutorials - regular tutorial sessions covering Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) education, wellbeing, employability skills, British Values, online safety and other topics that support students' personal development.
  • Work Experience or Industry Placement - all students are expected to complete work experience to develop their employability skills and gain valuable industry insight. A dedicated work experience week is scheduled for 8–11 February 2026. Students are encouraged to find their own placement in a sector related to their course; however, placements may also be completed on a regular weekly basis or during college holiday periods. Students must ensure all required documentation is completed by their employer and that their hours are accurately recorded on ProMonitor.  Those completing industry placements as part of their course, such as those studying T’levels will have different arrangements and this will be set out in their course handbook
  • Directed Study – students are expected to complete independent study outside of timetabled lessons. This may include homework, research, coursework and revision activities set by their teachers. Directed study tasks are linked to the curriculum and are an important part of academic success. Students will be expected to submit work by agreed deadlines and record their progress on ProMonitor.
