Michael Bee, who is in his second year studying for an HNC in Civil Engineering, works for Colas, an infrastructure contractor which has its headquarters in Birmingham.

Congratulating him, COLAS Project Manager, Alan Bray, said: “Michael is progressing very well on-site which has seen him be promoted to Senior Engineer recently. He is a valued member of the team and provides good experience and support to the graduate engineer he mentors.”

Charlotte Brown, Progress Coach, MidKent College, said: “Michael has always had a meticulous eye for detail and his work rate at college is exceptional, all of his submissions are handed before the deadline even though he has a demanding job role and a new baby. Michael is kind, considerate and is always willing to support his peers. His knowledge of Civil Engineering is vast, and he can draw on his years of experience to give scenarios of what the theory is teaching to practical real-life examples. Michael also supports a T Level placement in the workplace and is a true ambassador for the college, his workplace but also for any future civil engineer looking for a role model.”

Michael said: “Attending college to pursue a HNC in Civil Engineering has been an enriching and transformative experience. The programme provided a solid foundation in key engineering principles, with a strong emphasis on practical skills and real-world applications. Engaging with experienced teachers and collaborating with fellow students has fostered a supportive learning environment for me personally, as it allowed for exchange of ideas and experiences. From learning about Health, Safety and Law to understanding construction methods, each module contributed to a comprehensive understanding of the field. This journey not only enhanced my technical expertise but also ignited a passion for building sustainable infrastructure that positively impacts communities. I would like to mention Charlotte Brown and Catherine Avery, who have been especially helpful behind the scenes and going above and beyond to help all the apprentices on the course.

Congratulations Michael.
