We were delighted to welcome back alumni Gary Smith, who recently visited MidKent College to share his incredible journey with our sport students.

Gary studied a one-year Level 2 NVQ in Sport and Recreation at the City Way campus in 1997. He still goes on holiday with a few of his College friends!

He went on to become one of Great Britain’s most successful male trampoline gymnasts, representing Team GB for years and achieving a historic seventh-place finish at the Athens Olympic Games in 2004.

Never one to stand still, Gary then spent ten years touring the world as a performer with Cirque du Soleil, appearing in the internationally acclaimed show OVO. Dressed as a cricket, he performed high-adrenaline trampoline and acrobatic routines for audiences across the globe.

Now a Sport Development Officer at Medway Sport , Gary is passionate about inspiring people in the local community to get involved in sport.

His advice to students is to work hard, build good habits, stay curious and be resilient.

A huge thank you to Gary for inspiring the next generation
