A talented young filmmaker is accelerating towards life in the fast line after winning a competition to meet former F1 world champion Lewis Hamilton.
Former Maidstone Campus Creative Media student George Ellsworth
George Ellsworth, 19, also scooped £2,000 and tickets to the Italian Grand Prix at Monza after impressing with a road safety video created on behalf of the Motor Sports Association (MSA).
Among the judges for the competition were Hamilton and Sky Sports F1 presenters Johnny Herbert and Natalie Pinkham.
George, who recently completed the level 3 Diploma in Creative Media Production at MidKent College’s Maidstone Campus, said it was satisfying to be rewarded for the effort he put into producing the video.
He added: “It’s a real thrill to be going to Italy to watch the Grand Prix and to meet such a prestigious figure in British motorsport. I’ve only ever watched Formula 1 on TV so I’m very excited to actually see a race in person.
“It certainly feels like an achievement to win such a large competition, and to receive such a great set of prizes is a bonus.”
George won several competitions during his time at the College and will soon study for a degree in digital film production at Ravensbourne in London.
He added: “It gives me a buzz every time I win a competition. Knowing that the videos I produce are enjoyed and rated highly by professionals in the industry is always very encouraging.
“I plan to make a career in filmmaking, with the success of this competition being one of the many steps in achieving that goal.”
MidKent College runs a number of courses in Creative Media from both its Medway and Maidstone campuses.
