Construction students from MidKent College proved they were the best in the county with a triumphant showing at the annual Skilled Up competition.
Jerome Scott-Paul won in the bench joinery category at Skilled Up
Learners from the Maidstone Campus won three of the six trade categories contested at the event, beating their counterparts from Canterbury College, North West Kent College and K College.
The victorious MidKent students were Jerome Scott-Paul, 23, from Chatham (bench joinery); Jake Cleall, 19, from Lenham (bricklaying); and Rosie Kirkby, 20, from Maidstone (painting and decorating).
“I was very impressed with the way all our learners applied themselves throughout the competition,” said teaching and learning manager Les Barber.
“Their conduct, work ethic and professionalism were exemplary, and they were a real credit to the College and its construction lecturers.
“It was a great opportunity for them all to apply the skills they have gained and use them in a new, unfamiliar context against their counterparts from other colleges in Kent.”
This year’s Skilled Up final was held at Canterbury College on Monday, 23 July.
