Three of our talented T Level Construction students Alex, Fin and Liam, are celebrating after being selected as Youth Ambassadors for the Lower Thames Crossing scheme, delivered by National Highways.
The role gives young people the opportunity to represent student voices while gaining first-hand experience of one of the UK’s most significant infrastructure projects.
As part of the Youth Ambassador Forum, the students will attend a series of online and in-person meetings to discuss ideas, learn about project developments and explore the impact of the crossing on Kent and regional traffic congestion. They will also take part in practical employability activities such as CV writing, presentations and networking, while meeting other successful young ambassadors from across the region.
Alex said the scheme is particularly important to him as it provides valuable work experience and insight into a large-scale construction project. He explained that it will be the first major project he can reflect on as he works towards a future career in construction, with ambitions in quantity surveying or site management, and that the experience could potentially lead to an apprenticeship after completing his course.
Liam highlighted how beneficial the role will be for his future career, explaining that being a Youth Ambassador will strengthen his CV and give him the opportunity to gain work experience linked to a real construction project. He said the scheme will help him develop his skills while giving him a clearer understanding of what working life in the construction industry is really like.
Their tutor, Charlotte Brown, said:
“We are incredibly proud of Alex, Fin and Liam for being chosen as Youth Ambassadors for the Lower Thames Crossing. This opportunity will be hugely beneficial for them, helping them build confidence, develop employability skills and gain a real understanding of how major construction projects operate. It’s exactly the kind of experience that supports their learning and future careers.”
The Youth Ambassador Forum aims to inspire the next generation of construction professionals while ensuring young people have a meaningful voice in shaping the legacy of the Lower Thames Crossing project. Congratulations to Alex, Fin and Liam on this fantastic achievement!
