Simon Cook has been appointed as the new Principal of MidKent College, it was announced this week.
Simon began his career as an apprentice in 1988, this gave him the springboard into a career that took him around the globe before returning to the UK to start teaching in 1999.
Simon Cook says: ‘It is a great privilege and honour to lead MidKent College. I have such great hopes and ambitions for our students, I know from personal experience how much we can change people’s lives as I would not be here without a college like ours. I want to make sure all our students have the same life changing opportunities I did’.
Sheila Potipher, Chairman of the Governors, told staff that the board had unanimously confirmed Simon’s appointment on Tuesday 19 May.
Sheila said: ‘Simon joined MidKent from Cornwall College in 2013 as the Vice Principal since which time he has worked tirelessly to steer us all through some of the most challenging times we have experienced to date. His skills, experience and enthusiasm for further education are evident to us all and I am thrilled that he is going to continue the positive work already underway.’
Simon takes up his appointment with immediate effect having fulfilled the role of acting principal since the death in post of Sue McLeod last July.
