Summer sometimes feels like it comes with a lot of pressure. Scroll through social media and it might seem like everyone is on holiday, going to festivals,

hanging out with friends every day or making unforgettable memories. But that's only part of the picture.

If your summer looks a little different, that's completely OK.

Social media only shows the highlights

Most people share the best moments of their day, not the hours spent watching TV, working a summer job or simply doing... nothing!

It's easy to compare your life to someone else's highlight reel, but remember that what you see online isn't always the full story.

There's no "right" way to spend your summer

Some people are working. Others are helping out at home, waiting for exam results, getting ready to start college or just taking some time to relax.

Your summer doesn't have to look like anyone else's to be enjoyable.

Rest is important too

After months of lessons, coursework and exams, it's normal to feel tired. Taking time to recharge isn't being lazy – it's giving yourself the chance to reset before September.

You don't have to be productive every single day.

Do what makes you happy

Whether that's playing sport, gaming, reading, drawing, baking, going for walks or spending time with friends, make time for the things you enjoy.

Even small moments can make a big difference to your mood.

Need someone to talk to?

If you're finding things difficult this summer, feeling low or lonely,  remember you don't have to cope on your own. There are people who want to help.

If you're under 19, you can talk to a counsellor for free about anything that's worrying you, whether it's stress, anxiety, family, friendships or school.

Offers advice and practical tips to help young people look after their mental health and understand what they're feeling.

Provides free support for under-25s on everything from mental health and relationships to money, housing and education.

You can also speak to a trusted adult, parent, carer, teacher or another person you feel comfortable talking to. Sometimes sharing how you're feeling is the first step.

If you're joining or returning to MidKent College in September, our Student Support team is also here to help. Whether you're feeling anxious about starting college or need someone to talk to during the year, you won't have to face things alone.

Your summer is your own

There's no prize for having the busiest or most exciting summer. However you're spending yours, be kind to yourself, take things one day at a time and remember that September brings a brand-new opportunity to meet people, learn something new and make plenty more memories.

We're looking forward to welcoming you back to MidKent College soon.
