What to expect at our virtual open event. - Starting College
It’s vital for anyone thinking about applying to college to get the information and guidance they need to make the right choice about their study options - whether they’re a school leaver or an adult learner.
Usually in November we welcome thousands of prospective students and their parents and carers into our campuses for our open events. That’s not possible this year, so we’re going online! Virtual open events are still a great way to gather information, meet staff and view facilities.
Our series of live Q&A webinars starts next week – if you haven’t already registered, there’s still time! Slots are available across most of the weekday sessions and all of the Saturday sessions. Head to our website to check availability and register.
Although most of you will now have experience of online lessons, webinars and virtual meetings, we wanted to alleviate any nerves by letting you know what to expect from the event and to pass on a few hints and tips to help you make the most of your online experience.
WHAT TO EXPECT.
We can’t see you! As an attendee at our Q&A webinars, you will not be seen or heard by the host and presenter of the session
Your questions answered. You can type any questions in the live chat panel during the webinar. We may answer you on the chat, or we may flag your question for the presenter to answer live. Don’t be shy – we're here to answer anything you want to know!
Resources. A selection of handouts will be available for you to download during the session including FAQs about coming to College and instructions on how to apply
Subject specific. Each webinar will focus on a particular subject or support area and the presenter will be a member of staff from that department
Hear from our students. You will be able to watch a short video of a current or former MidKent College student talking about their time at college
Attend on time! The sessions are only 30 minutes long, so please ensure you join us at the start to avoid missing anything. If you register, but miss the session, a link to watch the recording will be emailed to you
Check what we offer. Our website is full of info on the programmes we offer – read up a bit before the session so you have an idea of what is covered
Prepare some questions. Have a think about what you need to know before the webinar - have you thought about entry requirements, what the programme may lead to etc?
Attend as many webinars as you like. There’s no need to decide on only one subject area – we would encourage you to come along to all those you are interested in and get as much info as you can on each one to help you make your final choice. There is also a specific webinar with our Careers Team which will help those of you who need more support before applying.

If you decide to apply for any of our programmes once you’ve attended a webinar, please complete the online application form via our website. Our Admissions staff will be available during the events via our usual website live chat should you need any support in making the application.
Remember - these events don't require you to attend out campuses, they are are an opportunity to meet us from your sofa!
