Boxing Day can feel a bit strange. After the festive build-up and all the excitement of Christmas Day, Boxing Day often feels quieter and slower.
If you’re feeling tired, unmotivated, or just not in the mood to do much, that’s completely normal.
For many students, this time of year comes after a long and demanding term. Exams, coursework, social pressure, and end-of-year tiredness can all catch up with you once things finally slow down. Add in family time and festive expectations, and it’s no surprise if your energy feels low.
You might also feel pressure to “make the most” of the holidays. Social media can make it seem like everyone else is being productive, social, or having the perfect Christmas. But rest isn’t wasted time. Doing nothing for a while helps your brain reset and gives your body a chance to recover.
Looking after your wellbeing doesn’t have to mean big changes or self-improvement goals. Today, it might simply mean sleeping a bit longer, going for a short walk, watching something comforting, listening to music, or having some quiet time away from your phone.
So if your Boxing Day plans involve very little at all, that’s okay. You don’t need to be busy to be doing something valuable. Resting today is not falling behind, it’s giving yourself what you need.
