For lots of people, summer is all about relaxing after exams, spending time with friends and enjoying a well-earned break. But if you've just finished school, it can also feel a little strange.
One minute you're seeing the same people every day, following a timetable and counting down to the holidays. The next, everything changes. If you're feeling excited, nervous, uncertain, or a mixture of all three, you're definitely not alone.
It's a big change
Starting College is a fresh start. You'll meet new people, learn new skills and have more independence than ever before. That's exciting, but it can also feel a little overwhelming.
You might find yourself wondering:
- Will I make friends?
- What if I get lost on my first day?
- What if my course is harder than I expected?
These are all completely normal questions, and chances are lots of other students are thinking exactly the same thing.
It's OK to have mixed emotions
You don't have to feel excited all the time. It's perfectly normal to miss your old routine, your teachers or seeing your school friends every day, even if you're looking forward to what's next.
Big changes often bring a mix of emotions, and that's all part of moving on to a new chapter.
Focus on what you can control
If you're feeling anxious about September, try focusing on the things you can prepare for now.
You could:
- Plan your journey to college.
- Find out more about your course.
- Get everything you need ready for your first week.
- Think about what you'd like to achieve this year.
Taking small steps now can help you feel more confident when September arrives.
Enjoy your summer too
While it's good to prepare, don't forget to enjoy your break. Spend time doing things you love, catch up with friends, get outside and give yourself time to recharge after a busy year.
College will be here before you know it!
