Student finance information for Higher Education students
In the UK, Student Finance is available to help eligible students cover the cost of tuition and living expenses while studying in higher education.
What support can you get?
Student Finance may include:
- Tuition fee loans– to cover the full cost of your course fees (paid directly to your university or college).
- Maintenance loans– to help with living costs like accommodation, food, and travel (paid directly to you).
- Additional support– such as grants or allowances for students with disabilities, children, or adult dependants.
Who can apply?
You can apply for student finance if you:
- Are studying an eligible higher education course in the UK.
- Meet residency and immigration status requirements.
- Are a new or continuing student.
Repayment
You’ll only start repaying your loan once you’re earning above a certain threshold. Repayments are based on your income, not the total amount borrowed. Interest is charged from the day you receive your first payment.
