I’m currently in my first year of level three at College. Last year, I completed level two, which was more hands-on

and practical, and I found it really enjoyable.

Level three is different, it’s more focused on the theory and calculations behind the work, which helps me understand the science behind what we’re doing.

So far this year, we’ve studied units 201 and 202. Unit 201 focused on design and planning, while 202 is more about the calculations and technical side. I think both levels are important, but I can see how level three really builds on what I learned before.

The tutors at College are great. They’re more relaxed than school teachers and are really supportive. They help you when you need it without constantly hovering over you. Because of this, I’ve had to take more responsibility for my own work. You have to stay focused and manage your time, but it’s a good way to learn independence.
After College, my plan is to move into an apprenticeship. I want to complete the last two or three years in the apprenticeship, get qualified, and work with different businesses to learn how people approach their trade differently. Eventually, I hope to be self-employed and find the best ways of working.

I decided to go to College because school wasn’t really for me. I’ve always wanted a hands-on career, and I knew I wanted to work in a trade. Initially, I considered carpentry, but I chose to focus on electrical work instead. I enjoy being practical, and with everything increasingly involving electrical systems, it felt like the right path for me.
