T Levels are new courses for 16-18 year olds which follow GCSEs and are equivalent to 3 A levels.

These two-year courses, which launched in September 2020, have been developed working with employers and businesses so that the content meets the needs of industry and prepares students for work, further training or study.

A T Level qualification offers students a mixture of classroom learning and ‘on-the-job’ experience during an industry placement of at least 315 hours (approximately 45 days).

T Levels include:

• Technical knowledge and practical skills specific to the student’s chosen industry or occupation.
• An industry placement of at least 45 days in their chosen industry or occupation. Watch this short Government video to hear why students find completing industry placements so beneficial.
• Relevant maths, English and digital skills.
• Common workplace skills.

Students who achieve a T Level will get a nationally recognised certificate which employers will use as evidence in their recruitment.

T Levels will offer students a mixture of classroom or workshop-based learning and ‘on-the-job’ experience.

What can I study?

We're planning to offer more T Level courses in future years, and will publish details to our website when other subjects are made available.

What can I do with a T Level qualification?

Once you have achieved your T Level, you will be able to choose between moving into:

  • A skilled occupation
  • Higher or degree level apprenticeships
  • Higher level technical study, including studying at university.

  • What are T Levels?

T Levels are two-year qualifications in England designed to prepare students for skilled employment, higher study, or apprenticeships. They combine classroom learning with a substantial industry placement, giving students hands-on experience in their chosen sector.

  • Who can study T Levels?

T Levels are aimed at students aged 16 to 19 who have completed their GCSEs and want to specialise in a technical area. They provide an alternative to A Levels for those who prefer a more practical and vocational route.

  • How long do T Levels take to complete?

T Levels take two years to complete full-time. The programme includes about 80% classroom study and 20% industry placement, usually lasting around 45 days, giving valuable work experience.

  • What qualifications do I get with a T Level?

On successful completion, you will receive a T Level qualification equivalent to three A Levels, along with a detailed report showing your practical skills and knowledge gained during your industry placement.

  • How does the industry placement work?

The placement is organised by your college and takes place with a local employer relevant to your course. It offers real-world experience, helping you apply your classroom learning and build workplace skills.

  • What are the benefits of taking a T Level?

T Levels provide a strong foundation for progressing to skilled employment, apprenticeships, or higher education. The combination of technical knowledge and work experience is highly valued by employers and universities alike.
