The course is delivered on Thursday evenings from 5.00pm–7.00pm.

There is no final examination. For Unit 404, you will complete six portfolio assessments covering the knowledge required to work effectively as an IQA.

Unit 405 is assessed through your own IQA practice. You will plan and carry out sampling, review assessment decisions and learner evidence, monitor assessor practice, provide feedback and take part in standardisation.

You will need access to at least two assessors, with at least two learners each, so that you can complete the practical requirements of the qualification.

This qualification can support progression into an Internal Quality Assurer (IQA) role within further education, apprenticeships, workplace training, adult learning and other vocational training settings.

It is also suitable for experienced assessors who are taking on greater responsibility for assessment quality, standardisation or supporting other assessors.

The qualification can support progression into wider quality assurance responsibilities, including lead IQA, curriculum or assessment quality roles. It can also provide a useful foundation for those who later move into the external quality assurance of assessment.

• You should have appropriate occupational knowledge and experience in the area in which you will carry out internal quality assurance.
  
• You should have experience of assessment and a good understanding of the assessment process.
  
• You must have access to at least two assessors, with at least two learners each, and be in a position to carry out genuine IQA activities during the course.
  
• You must be able to access the assessment records and learner evidence needed to complete your IQA activities.
  
• You should be able to complete written work at Level 4 and participate in professional discussions, standardisation and practical IQA activities.
