Course Description

This level 4 Building Services Design Technician apprenticeship standard is suitable for those who are going to work for clients, consultancies, and contractors. Building Services Design Technicians are associated with the supervision of the installation’ commissioning or servicing of environmental technologies on construction projects and are based on construction sites with occasional time in offices. All candidates should have a creative and analytical outlook that can be applied to the workplace.

The broad purpose of the occupation is to bring the built environment to life by connecting up the buildings we live and work in, ensuring they meet the needs of the people, plant, and services they need to accommodate, whilst providing comfort, building safety and security and efficiency through ever increasing environmental safeguarding.

The apprenticeship consists of work based and classroom learning to support learners though their on-programme qualifications and end point assessment.

Upon completing the Level 4 Apprenticeship, individuals will be well-equipped to begin a career as a Building Services Design Engineering Technician. Employment opportunities may arise across a range of sectors, including construction, consulting engineering practices, and facilities management companies.

Entry Requirements

To apply for the Level 4 Building Services Engineering Senior Technician Apprenticeship, candidates must be 18 years old or over.

Secure employment: Have an employer in place who is committed to supporting them throughout the apprenticeship.

Work hours: Be employed full-time, working a minimum of 30 hours per week, and be on the company’s PAYE scheme.

Educational qualifications: Must hold a minimum of 3 A-Levels, or a full Level 3 qualification (or equivalent). If candidates do not hold maths and English at grade 4/C or above, they will be required to complete Functional Skills qualifications alongside their apprenticeship.

Pre-employment checks: Successfully complete a scope of work review to ensure your job role aligns with the apprenticeship requirements, a skills scan, and initial assessments in maths and English.
