Course Description

The Level 3 Apprenticeship in Mechanical Engineering Maintenance Technician provides a practical and theoretical pathway for those interested in mechanical maintenance engineering careers.

It is ideal for hands-on learners and depends on the employer and apprentice's prior experience.

During the apprenticeship, participants will learn to play a vital role in keeping plant, equipment, and systems running safely, efficiently, and reliably. Working in sectors such as industrial mechanical equipment, manufacturing, utilities, energy, processing, you’ll gain real workplace experience while studying towards a nationally recognised qualification.

This apprenticeship combines classroom learning with on the job training, allowing you to earn while you learn and develop industry relevant skills.

As part of the course, you’ll focus on the maintenance of mechanical systems and components, including:

Pumps, valves, and pipework, gearboxes, fans, and actuators, mechanical plant and equipment.

You’ll learn how to carry out planned and preventative maintenance, respond to breakdowns, and support continuous improvement within the workplace.

During the course, you’ll develop the skills to:

Prepare for and carry out maintenance tasks safely and effectively
Advanced engineering mathematics
Complete work to required engineering and industry standards
Diagnose and resolve mechanical faults
Record and complete maintenance work accurately
Work both independently and as part of a maintenance team
Safety protocols and quality control are also key components, ensuring apprentices understand industry standards.

Future Prospects

Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship, individuals will be equipped with the skills and knowledge required to pursue a career as an Engineering Maintenance Technician. They may find employment in various industries, including industrial mechanical equipment, manufacturing, utilities, energy and processing. Moreover, the qualification opens doors for further education and specialisation, such as pursuing a higher apprenticeship or a degree in engineering.

Overall, this apprenticeship is a valuable opportunity for those looking to build a solid foundation in a technical and dynamic field.

Entry Requirements
