Course Description

The HNC in Electrical Engineering is a unique course designed to meet the demands of the 21st century and address the shortfall of trained engineers.
Graduates will be in a position to make a valuable contribution to the industry upon successful completion of the programme, having developed the analytical, research and design skills essential in today's marketplace.

You will study a total of eight modules:
UNIT 4002 - Engineering Maths
UNIT 4017 - Quality & Process Improvement
UNIT 4019 - Electrical & Electronic Principles
UNIT 4021 - Electrical Machines
UNIT 4015 - Automation, Robotics & Programmable Logic Controllers (plcs)
UNIT 4001 - Engineering Design
UNIT 4014 - Production Engineering for Manufacture
UNIT 4004 - Engineering Project

Other Important Information

> Typical lessons will involve research-based activities, individual and group projects, practical applications and seminar presentations
> Assessment is through a combination of research and design tasks, practical investigations and analytical assignments, as well as observations and presentations

Future Prospects

Successful completion could lead to employment or promotion within the engineering sector as an engineering technician, project/design engineer, or in systems commissioning/ applications. You may also progress to a foundation degree or full degree course.

Entry Requirements

You will need one of the following:
> A BTEC Level 3 Diploma/ National Certificate in Engineering
> A BTEC Extended Diploma/National Diploma in Engineering
> Two A-levels (including maths).

Mature candidates who do not meet the above criteria may still be admitted to the course subject to an interview with the programme director. The interview includes an admissions test for English and maths.
