Course Description


The UK Games Art, Animation and Visual Effects industries are continuously expanding and are greatly respected throughout the world. Some of the biggest players in those industries are less than an hour’s commute from the MidKent College campuses. If you're looking to join the creative, exciting and fulfilling world of games, film or television production, this course is a great way to start.

You will learn directly from staff who have worked on major feature films or made triple A games. All of our teaching staff have signficant industry experience and will draw on this to teach and mentor you through a number of creative projects encompassing game environments, character design and creation, animation and visual effects, plus so much more. The MidKent Games Art Production course represents an opportunity to start down the path to an amazing creative career doing something you love.

The level 3 course lets you focus on a number of specialist areas, helping you to plan for your future role in the industry. It will help you to develop a high level of technical and artistic skills in 3D design and production within a number of projects. The course focuses on individual and team-based projects, to enable each assessment to specialise for future progression into industry. You will be taught a number of industry standard software applications (including Unreal, Unity, Maya, Mudbox and Adobe creative suite) helping to develop a variety of projects.

You will be assessed through written and practical projects throughout the year. These assessments are a mix of internally and externally assessed work.

The course is made up of two one year programmes. In the first year you will study the UAL L3 Diploma in Creative Practice: Art, Design & Communication (Games Art Production). If you complete this successfully with the minimum of a Pass, you will be able to progress to the second year, when you will study the UAL L3 Extended Diploma in Creative Practice: Art, Design & Communication (Games Art Production).

Other Important Information

There is no specific equipment required for the course.

We expect professional attire that is appropriate to the industry.

You will be expected to use your creative skills throughout this course, however pre-existing art skills though desirable are not essential.

All MidKent College students will continue studying English and maths until they are 19, or until they have achieved a Grade C/4. Your study programme will incorporate a Work Placement of up to 350 hours in a role relevant to your study. All students will have access to a Personal Tutor to support their personal and professional development.

Future Prospects

Successful completion of this course will equip you with relevant skills in character / environment creation, asset creation, product visualisation, VR production, 3D modelling, visual effects and animation. You also have the opportunity to progress onto further study or Higher education.

Entry Requirements

Five GCSEs at grade 4/C or above including English and maths at grade 4/C or above.
