What will the apprentice be doing?

In short, the role involves learning to operate CNC Mill and Turn machines, working from engineering drawings, carrying out measurements and inspections, and developing skills in CNC / CAM programming. 

Additional duties / responsibilities are listed below: 

  • Operating CNC milling and turning machines  
  • Reading engineering drawings  
  • Measuring and inspecting components  
  • Learning CNC / CAM programming  
  • Supporting production and experienced engineers  
  • Following health and safety procedures 

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

The apprentice will receive practical training in the workplace while attending MidKent College in Maidstone on weekly day release to complete the Level 3 Engineering Machining Technician qualification. 

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

Over the course of the apprenticeship, the successful candidate will build the technical knowledge and practical skills needed to progress into a career as an engineering technician / CNC machinist.

Things to consider

The role would suit someone who is practical, accurate, technically minded and interested in engineering and manufacturing. Attention to detail is important, as the apprentice will be working with machinery, measurements and engineering specifications. 

You will need to be comfortable working in a typical, busy Engineering workshop.
