MidKent College students celebrate in style!
On Monday 3 July MidKent College held its annual Student Award ceremony to honour the achievements of students from both its Maidstone and Medway campuses.
The gala dinner, held at the Mercure Hotel in Maidstone, brought together finalists in 13 hotly-contested award categories to enjoy fine dining, superb entertainment from the College’s Performing Arts and Music students, and the drama of an Oscar-style award ceremony.
Staff at the College have been nominating their students since March, and an expert panel of judges had the unenviable task of narrowing the field down to three finalists and an overall winner for each category.
Highlights of the evening included Student of the Year sponsored by FE Associates and won by Art & Media student Krista Ajute, Apprentice of the Year sponsored by IPS and won by Luke Bennett, and The Employability Award sponsored by Corps Security won by Cherise Pout.
In a poignant moment, the College remembered former student Luke Mumford who tragically died in a road accident in 2016. In remembering Luke’s selfless dedication to others, the College presented an award named in his honour to Finley Sapsford, a Public Services student who supported an unwell passer-by awaiting the assistance of emergency services in Maidstone earlier this year.
College Principal Simon Cook said:
“I am bursting with pride at the achievements of our students, who work so hard to prepare for their future careers. Our Student Awards ceremony gives us a wonderful opportunity to celebrate those who have stood out to our staff throughout the year in the presence of their family and friends, and to recognise them for their skills, effort and achievement. This really is one of the highlights of our year, and my congratulations go to all of our finalists and winners”.
