Hair-raising fundraising

A rainbow-haired fundraiser generated more than £600 for charity after agreeing to shave her colourful new locks.

Briony loses her rainbow hair in aid of Cancer Research

Briony Minter, 17, from Chatham, underwent a radical restyling at MidKent College’s hair salon The Look and had it removed a few weeks later in aid of Cancer Research.

The Medway Campus art student said dyeing her hair was a good way to attract people’s attention and tell them about her plan to shave it off for cash.

“Every time I went somewhere I could see the look of shock and amazement on people’s faces and I couldn’t help but giggle at their reactions,” said Briony.

“Having rainbow hair was amazing and, as much as I miss it, I also really like having a shaved head! It was for a good cause as well, so I don’t regret it at all.

“I’ve always wanted to do something like this for charity but never had the courage until now.”

Briony has raised just over £625 so far and is still collecting donations via her JustGiving page.

She was aided in her fundraising by MidKent College’s youth work team, who helped her spread the word as well as organise the dyeing and shaving.

“Everyone who worked with me to make this all happen were brilliant,” said Briony.

“They supported me so much, kept me updated and were very friendly. I couldn’t have picked a nicer youth work team.”
