Festival fever at HE Event Competition
Anyone who has tried to organise an event knows that it can be tough work. But this didn’t put off our HE students, who were set the challenge of organising a Music Festival, with their pitches to be judged by Events professionals.
Participants had to choose the theme, venue and the bands, as well as presenting their Business and Marketing plans. Branding and website was also something that they were tasked with, but they all rose to the challenge and impressed the judges.
The panel consisted of MidKent College Pavilion Events' Karen Wright, MadCreative’s Steve Cole, Heather Wells from Springboard Marketing and Craig Bennett, who is part of ID & C Bands. ID & C Bands have provided security accreditation at some of the world’s biggest events, including the Ryder Cup, Parklife and Snowbombing. Craig Bennet, from ID & C, said "I was pleasantly surprised with the level of commercial detail the MidKent students delivered in their pitches. There were some genuinely sound ideas that wouldn't be out of place at a real life festival."
The overall winners were HND Public Services students, but the judges were impressed with the quality of the presentations from everyone. Students had no problem answering all the quick fire questions thrown at them and they had clearly prepared well. Well done to everyone involved.
