Earlier with MidKent...
An ambitious project to recreate a prestigious BBC music show has seen MidKent College's theatre transformed into a live TV studio.
Students from Media, Music Technology, Music Performance and Performing Arts produced their own version of 'Later with Jools Holland' which they performed, filmed and mixed as though it were a live broadcast.
They spent weeks preparing 'Earlier with MidKent' before a day and a half of rehearsals followed by a half hour 'broadcast' in front of a live audience.
Many of them have been to see the original show, broadcast from Maidstone Studios, after the BBC invitied them to join the audience of each episode.
Music Technology lecturer Ben Gurney said "This project was a good opportunity for students to get the real life experience of working with people from other disciplines."
The Media department's Leo Caroleo saw both equipment and students put through their paces: "The students worked together really well. It was challenging for them to be using familiar equipment in unfamiliar settings."
Student Frank Watkins from the Media department said "It was a good experience seeing everyone working together in a professional set up."
