Carpentry student celebrates 100% exam score!
Level 2 Site Carpentry student Callum Edwards has proven he’s got what it takes to go to the very top of the industry!
He scored a massive 100% in his external theory exam for Unit 202, something Construction Curriculum Manager Kulwant Gautam has never seen any student achieve before.
Callum joined MidKent College last September on the Level 2 Diploma, and told us a bit more about his decision to join college;
“I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do when I left school, so I spoke to the school careers advisor and mentioned that I was interested in carpentry and she suggested applying to MidKent College. I came along to one of the open evenings and had a look around, the tutors showed us the workshop and demonstrated what we would be doing on the programme. Seeing the facilities helped me decide to apply. Also my grandad was a carpenter so I think that affected my choice. I really like the practical side of the programme, but the theory side is interesting as well.
The tutors are really helpful and knowledgeable. They are all ex-carpenters, which really helps as they have tips and tricks and different ways of doing things to show you.”
"Callum’s attendance rate was 98% and he was always very attentive – he absorbs information amazingly well! I’ve worked for many years in colleges as a Head of Department for Construction and I have never seen anyone else achieve 100% in this particular unit, which covers lots of general knowledge about the building industry and related trades. Well done Callum, very best wishes for your next step in the Carpentry industry.”
Callum is looking to move onto an apprenticeship next year and is currently searching for an employer to take him on.
Head of Department for Construction, Sarah Shucksmith, was amazed by Callum’s achievement and had this to say,
“We’ve been so impressed with Callum’s hard work and determination. His attendance for the duration of his programme was excellent and his results reflect that. He also had brilliant support from his tutors. I understand Callum is looking to move on to an apprenticeship next and I wish him all the best for his future.”
