I joined the College as an Access to Nursing and Healthcare Professions student in 2015 with an aim to pursue a nursing career..
I decided to progress at College instead of university, and enrolled on the HNC Health and Social Care course. Throughout this one year level 4 course I developed my higher education skills and subject knowledge. I achieved highly in all of my units and gained confidence in the workplace through my placement. I learned about legislation, policy, application of theories in practice and developed excellent communication skills.
I took a one year gap year from my studies to establish myself in my career in care home settings. I have risen to a senior dementia care role during this time
I decided to return to College after my gap year, and so far this year, I'm on track to achieve my HND with Distinction and so complete a ‘top up’ year at the University of Greenwich and complete my degree in Health and Social Care and realise my dream of being a care home registered manager.
The course has provided me with work opportunities and valuable confidence building skills as well as academic study. I progressed from level 3 to level 5 within the College and have achieved my dream career and qualifications by utilising a much more cost effective and progressive route to a full degree alongside work experience in the sector.
