The Details

This carpentry and joinery apprenticeship gives you the opportunity to learn carpentry skills, earn a wage, and gain valuable work experience in the industry. You will be employed by a carpenter or building contractor and work alongside an experienced tradesperson to develop and practise your skills.

You will attend College for one day per week to learn the theoretical side of your trade. You will learn about first and second fixing operations and erecting structural carcasses (site carpentry). We will also work with you to develop your English and maths skills to the level that most employers in the construction industry are looking for.

Other Important Info

  • Some training will take place at College, where you will develop your knowledge within our well-equipped workshops and theory sessions
  • Working with tutors, you will be given demonstrations and the opportunities to build on your practical skills
  • You will need to provide your own personal protective equipment at College to study Site Carpentry
  • The end-point assessment consists of two key elements. The knowledge assessment consists of 40 questions designed to assess your understanding of the specific knowledge and behavioural requirements, while the practical assessment is a skills test.

    Future Prospects

You could choose to increase your skills with a Carpentry and Joinery Advanced Apprenticeship at level 3.

Upon completion you are then eligible to apply for the Blue skilled worker CSCS card required to work on large construction projects.

    Applicants should have:
