This carpentry and joinery apprenticeship gives you the opportunity to learn carpentry skills, earn a wage, and gain valuable work experience in the industry. You will be employed by a carpenter or building contractor and work alongside an experienced tradesperson to develop and practise your skills.
You will attend College for one day per week to learn the theoretical side of your trade. You will learn about first and second fixing operations and erecting structural carcasses (site carpentry). We will also work with you to develop your English and maths skills to the level that most employers in the construction industry are looking for.

Working with tutors, you will be given demonstrations and the opportunities to build on your practical skills
You will need to provide your own personal protective equipment at College to study Site Carpentry
The end-point assessment consists of two key elements. The knowledge assessment consists of 40 questions designed to assess your understanding of the specific knowledge and behavioural requirements, while the practical assessment is a skills test.
You could choose to increase your skills with a Carpentry and Joinery Advanced Apprenticeship at level 3.
Upon completion you are then eligible to apply for the Blue skilled worker CSCS card required to work on large construction projects.
Applicants should have: Employment within the sector with a contract of employment for at least 30 hours per week
5 GCSEs including Maths and English at minimum grade D or 3 and above (Candidates who completed study overseas and are now working in the UK may also be eligible. Please contact us to discuss your application.)
