The Details

Earn while you learn on an apprenticeship with the College! This nationally recognised standard will provide you with the skills, experience and knowledge you need to progress in your chosen career. Your apprenticeship framework will include a combination of on-the-job training, studying for your qualification at College and maths, English and possibly ICT depending on the framework and any prior GCSEs. Creative carpenters offer valuable work on a range of building projects. To become a successful carpenter, you need to have a good combination of the underpinning theory and practical skills to apply to the workplace. The units will include:

  • Efficiency in the workplace
  • Health and Safety
  • Loading and unloading materials
  • Preparing materials
  • Calculations of materials
  • Carrying out carpentry practical work

    Other Important Info

  • Some of your training will be College-based, and include developing your practical skills in the workshop, as well as theory sessions related to your work
  • All students must provide their own personal protective equiment at College to study Site Carpentry

    Future Prospects

    The goal is to become a fully qualified tradesperson with the ability to carry out carpentry on recognised building projects. If you'd like to study to level 4, this is available via Professional Construction courses.

    Entry Requirements

    Students need to have the following:

  • Successful completion of the Level 2 Apprenticeship
  • Employment within the sector with a contract of employment for at least 30 hours per week
  • A good standard of education with 5 GCSEs at A-C / 9-4 including maths and English (or equivalent)
  • Satisfactory completion of the college initial assessment
