Looking for an Accountancy apprenticeship in Kent? Gain the vocational qualification employers need at MidKent College.

Achieve professional AAT qualifications and key industry work experience with an Accountancy apprenticeship in the Kent and Medway areas. As a finance apprentice, you’ll study one day a week in College, and your remaining four days a week in your workplace improving your experience in an accountancy setting. You will need to have an employer before applying for your College place.

Previously known as diplomas in Accounting, the new apprenticeship standards are designed with local employers to ensure that you learn the well-rounded set of skills and work experience you need to be an ideal candidate for any employer.

Kent’s economy is growing, and as all businesses require financial management, the demand for financial accountants, accounts assistants and bookkeepers, (and all roles in between!) will increase. You have the option to become self-employed, work for a local or national accountancy firm or within a large organisation as part of their finance team. There are many full-time and part-time employment options available to you in Kent and Medway.

What will I learn?

You will develop key skills in figure analysis, accounts preparation, budget management, financial forecasting, cash flow, reporting financial data and professional ethics. You could then progress to one of our higher apprenticeships, and study at an advanced level topics including employment law, the business context of HR and professional practice. You’ll not only develop your experience in an accountancy company, but also the skills needed for every workplace – communication, time management and managing your own workload.

Taught by experienced industry professionals, the lessons are a great combination of theory and practical work. You’ll need to have a good head for numbers, be organised and able to communicate well (both verbally and in writing).

During your apprenticeship, you’ll also develop your English, maths and ICT skills.

We also offer advanced level higher apprenticeships, with the opportunity to take your studies further and specialise. The work experience and professional qualifications you will gain can take you onto degree apprenticeships.

How will I be assessed?

Your dedicated training officer will assess most of your learning in your workplace. Depending on the level of apprenticeship you complete, as a finance apprentice you will also complete online supervised exams or assignments, authorised and assessed by AAT.

What will I get from an accountancy apprenticeship?

  • A nationally recognised AAT professional qualification
  • GCSEs in English and maths (dependent on previous level of qualification)
  • Relevant and applicable industry experience
  • Once fully qualified, chartered management accountants can earn on average £28,000-50,000 per year*.

Once you’ve successfully completed the Level 4 Professional Diploma in Accountancy at the College, degree apprentices can work towards chartered status.

How do I apply for an apprenticeship?

Choose the level of Accountancy apprenticeship that is most appropriate to you from the selection of programmes above. A level 2 apprenticeship is approximately equivalent to GCSE, level 3 to A-level and level 4 to degree level. Select "Apply", register your email address and then complete the required details.

You’ll need to meet set entry requirements, and we’ll invite you in for an interview, and possibly an assessment, depending on the level. But it’s nothing to worry about! We welcome applicants from those who already have an employer willing to sponsor them, as well as helping those looking for employment.
