MKC Training Services
MKC Training Services Ltd (MKCTS) is a wholly owned subsidiary company of MidKent College, contracted by the Ministry of Defence (MoD) to provide a range of training services to the Royal School of Military Engineering (RSME) in Chatham.
In January 2009 the College was contracted to provide artisan, technical and professional training in construction and engineering at the RSME as part of a 30-year Public Private Partnership (PPP). MKCTS, which employs approximately 200 people, is responsible for the delivery of more than 94 courses at the RSME across a range of construction and engineering programme areas from Level 2 to master's degree level.
Subjects taught at the Royal School of Military Engineering include:
- Air Conditioning & Refrigeration
- Bricklaying & Concreting
- Building & Structural Finishing
- Carpentry & Joinery
- Construction Materials
- Draughtsmanship (Design & Electrical Mechanical)
- Heating & Plumbing
Since January 2010, MKCTS has been closely involved with the RSME in the development and roll-out of an innovative programme of training transformation that blends interactive computer-based resources with practical tasks. This places the soldiers at the centre of the learning experience, providing a greater ownership of their own development and allowing those with natural talent or previous experience to progress more rapidly through the courses than their peers. This flexibility enables many soldiers to be released to the field army much earlier than traditional delivery methods, which is a significant benefit for the MoD.
MKCTS has taken forward the skills and knowledge developed at the RSME, as well as its access to the expertise of a wide range of subject matter experts, to set up a new business venture called Cirrus e-learning. Established in 2012, Cirrus e-learning provides e-learning content development to a range of sectors. Its strapline ‘e-learning – with a focus on learning’, highlights its emphasis on placing the user at the centre of a high quality, technology-based learning experience.
Founded more than 200 years ago, the Royal School of Military Engineering is the main training establishment for the British Army's Royal Engineers. Royal Engineers have been present in every conflict involving British Forces throughout the world since the late 18th Century.
