Academic year 2012/13

Further Education (FE) Courses

The following information is for students who have been permanently resident in the UK or European Union for at least three years on 1 September 2012.

Please note: MidKent College does not have a Tier 4 licence and as a consequence is unable to accept any applications from students on a Tier 4 visa. Please contact us on 01634 402020 if you have any further queries.

Students aged 18 or under on 31 August 2012

Tuition is FREE for all 16-18 year-old students on full-time Further Education (FE) courses of more than 14 hours a week running for 10 weeks or more.

There are no examination/registration fees for full-time students who are aged 18 or under on 31 August 2012 except under certain circumstances (e.g. re-sitting exams).

Students aged 19 or over on 31 August 2012

Fees for College courses are set in line with government policy. It is expected that there will be changes in government policy this year, but the details are not currently available. The following can therefore only be taken as a guide and full fee information will be published here as soon as it becomes available, hopefully by the end of April 2012.

Under current policy, tuition fees and examination/registration fees will be charged to all students aged 19 or over on 31 August 2012. Details of the fee for each course will be published on this website as soon as they are confirmed. Concessions on the fees may be available for students who receive a means tested state benefit.

Where fees are payable these must be settled in full, or an instalment plan set-up before the start of the course (details below).

All students may apply to our Student Financial Support team for a grant towards their equipment, textbooks and childcare, if their financial circumstances merit it.

Please note that if you are on benefits, these could be affected. You should contact your benefit office for advice.

As a guide only, in the current academic year (2011-12), tuition fees for students enrolling on the first year of their course are £1,595 plus a £115 contribution to awarding body examination/registration fees. Tuition fees for the daytime Access courses are £1,295 plus a £115 contribution to awarding body examination/registration fees. A separate tuition fee is charged for each academic year of the course.

Level 2/3 Entitlement

Free tuition is available for some courses depending on your age and the qualifications you have already achieved. Examination/registration fees will still be payable in full at the start of the course.

Please follow the link to determine whether or not your chosen course qualifies for the Level 2/3 Entitlement Concession.

To qualify for the concession, you must be enrolling on an Entry Level/Level 1 course intending to progress to Level 2, or a full Level 2/3 programme (including programmes that add up to 100%).

You must also meet the criteria relating to age and prior qualifications detailed on the Level 2/3 Declaration Form, available here.

If you qualify for this concession, you must complete the Declaration Form and pay any applicable examination/registration fees in full at the start of the course.

This information is correct at the time of writing but is subject to change and does form part of a contract.
