If your course is at least one day per week over the 36 week academic year, you will automatically become a member of the the College's Students' Union (SU).
The SU promotes the interests and welfare of MidKent College students, and organises many popular social, sporting and local community events. Affiliated to the National Union of Students (NUS), members can also enjoy the benefits provided by the NUS to its own members (such as advice on student issues and discounts in many high street stores as well as online).
The SU President, James Phillips, and Vice President for Maidstone, Jack Handley, are full members of the College's Governing Body, meaning student opinion has a direct impact on the decisions College Governors and senior staff make.
No matter what your age, gender or how many hours you attend College for, the Students’ Union is here to represent your views and interests. With elected officers representing areas such as Media, Sports, and Clubs & Societies, there will always be a member of the Union who you can approach with any suggestions or comments.
There will be plenty of opportunities for you to have your say during the new academic year. Elections for the Campus Committee positions in the Students’ Union will be held shortly after the beginning of term in September 2011.
There will also be elections for course representatives within your individual courses. Your opinions can be voiced through these representatives or you might decide that you want to try to be elected as a representative yourself!
The Students’ Union will represent your views on College, local and national issues, and keep you up-to-date on decisions that may affect your life and future. Last year, the Students’ Union worked closely with the National Union of Students (NUS) to voice students’ views on EMA cuts and tuition fees rises, and this year we hope to continue this national representation.
The Students’ Union is your elected body, and the issues we raise will be what you have asked us to raise. We want to make your experience of MidKent College even better for all our students. You can help us to make it better by telling us what you think.
I hope to hear from you soon!
