Rihards Maslovs – who wowed audiences with his vocal talents on the Zelta Talanti show in 2010 – is now studying ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) at MidKent College’s Medway Campus.
But the charismatic youngster returned to the stage on Thursday when he beat 11 other acts from both the Medway and Maidstone campuses to win the College’s very own competition, MidKent’s Got Talent.
Rihards will now compete against winners from other colleges in next month’s grand final, as will singing duo Devon Hobbis (correct) and Verity Thompson, who came second with their rendition of the Two Door Cinema Club hit Undercover Martyn.
Energetic dance troupe Run the World and singer Ben Vinten – who performed the Ed Sheeran hit The A Team – finished joint third and must battle it out again to see who progresses to the grand final.
Louise Molton – head of faculty for Creative and Visual Arts – was one of the judges for the event and said she was very proud of everyone who took part.
She added: “It was a great experience for them all, and what we saw tonight was raw talent getting the opportunity to show everyone what they’re capable of.
“It was a thoroughly entertaining evening and everyone should be congratulated for performing with very little time to rehearse.
“I think our three entrants have an excellent chance in the grand final.” ___________________________________________________ For all media enquiries, please contact Steve Knight, Marketing and Communications Officer, on 01634 383277 or email steve.knight@midkent.ac.uk.
