Tony Truscott – head of the Care & Community Services faculty at MidKent College’s Medway Campus – bowed out in style after being ambushed by fellow members of staff intent on celebrating 15 years of fun.
Held in the College’s state-of-the-art performance theatre, the show included hilarious stories and photos of Tony’s career as well as appearances by several guests including his wife and grandchildren.
Also in attendance was principal Stephen Grix, who has been on long-term sick leave and received a standing ovation when he made his surprise appearance.
Following the ceremony, a live band played some of Tony’s favourite songs as he danced with colleagues and students in the pavilion.
“I’m very honoured – it was a total surprise,” he said. “I’ve got to know so many people at the College and made so many friends, and it was wonderful to see them all here today.
“I’d like to thank everyone for putting up with me these last 15 years. I have too many high points to mention, and no low points at all – I’ve enjoyed every single minute of it.”
