The SU has helped organise a number of Olympic-themed events throughout the academic year and has now been recognised with a bronze award from the National Union of Students.
“We are really pleased the work we have done to get students involved and excited for the Olympics has paid off with this fantastic accreditation from the NUS,” said SU president James Phillips.
“Now we are eagerly waiting for the torch to pass by and the games to begin.”
Last week two MidKent College students – Tom Colgan and Alice Longstaff – held a sports day at Medway Park for pupils from Burnt Oak Primary School and Brompton-Westbrook Primary School.
The event, which included traditional races alongside other fun activities, was funded by the SU.
Tom said: “We wanted to raise awareness of the Olympics among the children and give them a taste of what it’s like to compete in sporting activities.
“I can see one or two of the pupils taking up athletics as a result, which would be fantastic.”
