The college runs a similar January Start campaign each year. The scheme, which is only open to those aged between 16 and 18, improves prospects by allowing young people to join new courses as late as January and February – a third of the way through the traditional academic year.

Assistant Principal for Planning and Student Services at the college, Lindsey Morgan, said: “The scheme forms part of our commitment to providing flexible teaching and learning to the communities that we serve.

“Life doesn’t always fit around the traditional academic year; one person may have started a different course in September only to discover that it wasn’t right for them; another may have left school to start what they thought was a secure job, only to find that work was no longer available. Our January Start campaign gives these people a second chance, and prevents them from having to wait until next September to join the College.”

Those who are interested in applying are invited to come along to the Connexions Access Point in Chatham on 8 December 10am - 1pm or call the college Course Information Line on 01634 402020 quoting ‘January Starts’.
