College promotes progression to uni

The daylong event, held for students at MidKent College, featured exhibitors from a range of local universities, including the University of Kent, Canterbury Christ Church University and the Open University.

Student visitors to the fair, which was held at the college’s Medway Campus on Medway Road in Gillingham, were able to find out more about university courses, finding accommodation, student finance, and applying through UCAS.

A number of workshops and talks also took place, with speakers including Lawrence Wood, dean of fine arts at the University for the Creative Arts. Mr Wood talked to students about routes into a career within art and design. He also offered learners some practical advice on how to apply for an art-based degree and compile a design portfolio.

Other speakers included Jane Anderson of the University of Kent, who talked about options for student finance, and Lina Jiminez from the University of Greenwich, who was able to offer guidance on choosing what university to go to.
