Aaron Purcell and Ben Rist, both of whom are members of the organisation’s Young Person’s Forum, had their locks bleached and shaved respectively by Hair Design students at MidKent College’s Medway Campus.

The fundraiser is one of several being run by the Trust – a charity established to improve the life chances of Medway’s young people – to boost its own funds while also raising cash for the Oliver Fisher Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Medway Maritime Hospital, and for the Bontabami orphanage in South Africa.

The Trust’s youth participation specialist adviser Steve Hutson said: “As an organisation that works with young people, it’s important that we listen to them and involve them at all levels.

“That’s why we allowed the youth forum to come up with their own fundraising ideas, and they’ve done fantastically well so far.

“The staff and students at MidKent College have also been absolutely wonderful. We have very close links with the college, and its deputy principal Sue McLeod is a member of our board of trustees.”

MidKent College is currently working with Medway Youth Trust to raise awareness of a limited number of courses starting this January that are now open for application.

A full list of the courses available can be found at www.midkent.ac.uk

Those interested in signing up can visit Medway Youth Trust’s Connexions access point, Chatham, from 10am-3pm on Tuesday, January 10, or Maidstone Connexions from 11am-4pm on Thursday, January 12.
