Hair Design

With a long tradition of offering courses in Hair Design, at MidKent College in Kent, we have an unrivalled network of links to the local industry.


 

Fully-equipped salons – which have been granted the Wella Salon of Excellence Award – provide a high-quality commercial setting in which students can practise their skills and provide their services to paying customers.

Choose to learn with us and you will benefit from a wide choice of work experience placement opportunities, as well as the support of expert tutors working in a department judged by Ofsted as Outstanding.

An extensive range of higher education courses are also available at MidKent College.



Our full-time Hair Design courses lead to nationally recognised qualifications that either prepare students for work in the hairdressing industry or enable those who are already qualified as hairdressers to develop and enhance their skills.

Depending on the level of course you complete, you may begin by developing your practical skills on your classmates and a 'training head'. Then, as your skills improve, and with supervision from your tutor, you will start to provide treatments for fee-paying clients. 

Those studying at a more advanced level will enhance their technical skills, including cutting and colouring.

   Foundation Learning BTEC Diploma in Vocational Studies > Hair & Beauty Pathway (Entry Level) - Medway/Maidstone

   Diploma in an Introduction to Hair & Beauty (Level 1) - Medway/Maidstone

   (VRQ & NVQ) Diploma in Hairdressing (Level 2) - Medway/Maidstone

   (VRQ & NVQ) Diploma in Hairdressing (Level 3) - Medway/Maidstone

Part-time and evening courses offered include:

   NVQ Diploma in Hairdressing (Level 2) - Medway/Maidstone


   Award in Cutting Men's Hair (Level 2) - Medway/Maidstone
 
   Award in Perming Hair (Level 2) - Medway

   Specialist Certificate in Wedding Hair & Make-up - Medway

   Application & Maintenance of Hair Extensions - Maidstone

All Foundation Learning courses aim to enable students to progress to a full Level 2 qualification.

The Level 2 NVQ could lead to the Level 3 Diploma or employment in the hairdressing industry following a trade test.

Following the Level 3 Diploma, students can begin their career in a commercial salon or progress to a higher level qualification.
