At MidKent College in Kent, our higher education courses in computing are designed with the IT professional in mind, particularly one wishing to pursue a career within a senior role.



MidKent College's HND in Information Technology is firmly based on the traditional computing disciplines of systems analysis, computer-based problem solving, computer architecture and information systems.

The course develops the use of programming and scripting languages, system installation and maintenance, website multimedia design and database management.

The course can be studied full-time over two years. The HNC Conversion can be studied part-time over one year. 

How will I be assessed?

Assessment methods are varied according to the individual modules studied and will include combinations of written reports, examinations (where appropriate) and presentations. 

What will I learn?

Units include:

    Introduction to Computer Architecture
    Programming in a Modern Graphic Environment
    Systems Analysis and Design
    Multimedia on the web

    Networks

    Web Programming

    Intranet Implementation


What may it lead to?

By the end of the course you will be able to recommend enterprise solutions and develop and maintain a database-driven intranet service. Career possibilities include wesbite design and development, e-business development, web programming, intranet design and development, systems analysis, IT management and technical support roles, to name but a few.

Our Foundation Degree in Information Technology is delivered from our Chatham Maritime Campus in the Universities at Medway complex. This course is based on traditional computing disciplines and explores the role of management within the IT industry together with systems architecture and networking.

The Foundation Degree can be studied full-time over 2 years or part-time over 3 years.

How will I be assessed?

Assessment methods are varied according to the individual modules studied and will include combinations of written reports, examinations (where appropriate) and presentations. 

What will I learn?

Units include:

    Introduction to Computer Architecture
    Programming in a Modern Graphic Environment
    Systems Analysis and Design
    Multimedia on the web

    Object Orientated Programming in Java
    IT Management

    Intranet Project (double work-based module)

What may it lead to?

By the end of the course you will be able to recommend enterprise solutions and develop and maintain a database-driven intranet service. Career possibilities include wesbite design and development, e-business development, web programming, intranet design and development, systems analysis, IT management and technical support roles, to name but a few.

You may also progress to a full Honours Degree at the University of Kent.
