You will learn in state-of-the-art laboratories - allowing you the opportunity to use and become familiar with many of the analytical tools commonly used within industry and scientific research.



What will I learn?

Units include:

   Inorganic Chemistry

   Organic Chemistry

   Physical Chemistry

   Chemical laboratory techniques

   Analytical Chemistry

   Environmental monitoring and analysis

   Biochemistry


What are the entry requirements?

To be accepted onto this course you should have 200 UCAS points which could be made up of some of the following: 


   National Certificate or Diploma/Extended Diploma in Applied Science (merit, merit, pass) or similar discipline 

   A-levels (with a minimum D grade in Chemistry) 

   Other related level 3 qualifications 

   Access to Higher Education Certificate


Mature applicants without the above qualifications but with relevant industrial work experience may be considered.

Our Foundation Degree in Life Science Laboratory Technology is delivered from the Kent Science Resource Centre in Sittingbourne. This course is designed to lead to and enhance exciting careers in laboratory science and can be studied full-time over two years, or part-time over three.

What will I learn?

Units include:

   Basic and advanced laboratory practice

   Project Management

   Cell Biology

   Biochemistry

   Microbiology

   Human Physiology and Disease

   Organic and Medicinal Chemistry


What are the entry requirements?

Students will preferably have a level 3 qualification - eg. two A-levels (D grade in Science) or a merit profile for the Extended Diploma in Applied Science. Students who have been in work for more two years will be assessed on individual merit.

BSC (Hons) in Life Science Laboratory Technology

 
 
 

Those achieving well in the first two years will be able to progress to the third BSc (Hons) year. This top-up is a more academic year and students will increase and broaden their knowledge of Life Sciences and procedures in the workplace.

What will I learn?


   Physiology of animals and plants

   Molecular mechanisms of gene expression  

   Epidemiology and disease

   Bioactive molecules and biomedicine


What are the entry requirements?


   Students progressing from the foundation degree and/or equivalent HND should be achieving at merit level.
